    Tribunal de Nueva York bloquea política de Trump de detención obligatoria de migrantes sin fianza

    Un tribunal federal de apelaciones rechazó este martes la política del gobierno de Donald Trump que buscaba imponer la detención obligatoria, sin derecho a fianza, a amplios grupos de inmigrantes en proceso de deportación, incluidos aquellos que han vivido durante años en Estados Unidos, informó CBS.

    El fallo fue emitido por un panel del Tribunal de Apelaciones del Segundo Circuito, con sede en Nueva York, que calificó la medida como “el mandato de detención masiva sin fianza más amplio en la historia de nuestra nación para millones de no ciudadanos”.

    En su decisión, los jueces advirtieron que la interpretación de la administración Trump podría generar “una conmoción sísmica” en el sistema migratorio, al sobrecargar centros de detención ya saturados, encarcelar a millones de personas, separar familias y afectar a comunidades enteras.

    La política surge de una reinterpretación realizada el año pasado por el gobierno de Trump de una ley migratoria de la década de 1990. Bajo ese nuevo enfoque, cualquier persona que haya ingresado ilegalmente al país, sin importar cuánto tiempo haya pasado, podría ser detenida de forma obligatoria mientras se resuelve su caso, sin posibilidad de solicitar libertad bajo fianza ante un juez.

    Antes de este cambio, muchos inmigrantes indocumentados que llevaban años en el país podían acceder a audiencias de fianza y defender sus casos en libertad si demostraban que no representaban un riesgo de fuga ni una amenaza para la seguridad pública.

    La detención obligatoria se aplicaba principalmente a quienes habían cruzado recientemente la frontera o a personas con ciertas condenas penales.

    El tribunal consideró que la nueva interpretación ampliaba de forma significativa el alcance de la detención, permitiendo retener indefinidamente incluso a personas sin antecedentes penales más allá de infracciones migratorias.

    La decisión, sin embargo, no cierra el debate a nivel nacional. Otros tribunales de apelaciones, como los del Quinto y Octavo Circuito —con sede en Luisiana y Misuri— han respaldado la postura del gobierno, lo que evidencia una división en el sistema judicial.

    Now it gets interesting. Now it gets a sixth game, in Philadelphia.

    And now it appears Joel Embiid will stay upright after all.

    These are intriguing times for the 76ers and a most curious time for the Boston Celtics, who couldn’t close out this first-round playoff series at home Tuesday, and therefore invited suspense and who knows what else to creep into a best-of-seven that’s no longer so simple.

    The Sixers used Embiid and a dominant if not desperate fourth quarter to keep their season alive and keep the Celtics from advancing. That’s because the Celtics were good for just 11 points in the quarter. This might be a series, after all.

    And it just demonstrates once again that in the NBA playoffs, nothing is ever for certain and scenarios can change in an instant.

    So this is where the Sixers and Celtics are at:

    If the Sixers win Game 6 and Embiid stays healthy, this historical rivalry between these franchises will demand another Game Seven and chapter to be written.

    If the Celtics win and eliminate Philly, then they’ll regain the shine they had when they assumed a 3-1 lead and a rosy post-season outlook.

    Everyone will find out in a few days.

    In the meantime, here are takeaways from the Sixers’ 13-point comeback Game 5 win:

    1. Embiid falls, rises, conquers

    There was a hauntingly hushed moment on the Sixers’ bench late in the third quarter when Embiid landed awkwardly on his left leg and instantly and perhaps reflexively reached for his knee and limped away. Where have we seen this before?

    Lucky for Embiid and the Sixers, the angst was temporary. Following a few minutes in the locker room for examination, he checked back in and changed the game.

    Look: Embiid’s health could determine this series. He’s that good … and that brittle. This was just his second game back from an appendix injury, for which he underwent surgery 19 days earlier, which sidelined him for a few weeks. He thoroughly thrashed any defense and defender the Celtics threw his way. Boston isn’t offering up Al Horford anymore.

    And while Neemias Queta is truly among the most improved players in the league this year — and did grab 14 rebounds in this game — the Embiid Assignment is on another level of difficulty for him and Luka Garza and Nikola Vucevic.

    The other bad news for the Celtics is Embiid isn’t parking himself beyond the 3-point arc anymore. He’s doing work down low. He’s drawing fouls, getting to the line or dropping layups or 10-foot fadeaways.

    Meaning, he’s playing to his strengths and exposing the Celtics’ weakness.

    “He put a lot of pressure on us,” said Jayson Tatum.

    All told, his 33 points while lasting 39 minutes represented one of his better playoff efforts. He’s scary when healthy. And this was an example why his desire shouldn’t be questioned, only his body, which betrays him far too much and gave him another scare Tuesday.

    Where would this series be if Embiid were healthy from the start?

    2. Celtics lose killer instinct late

    They were up 13 points in the second half and seemingly in control and then took their foot off the gas. Or maybe the Sixers forcibly removed such foot. Or a combination of the two. Anyway, the Celtics turned to vapor in the fourth quarter and the Sixers were only too happy to take advantage.

    Like, Boston was 3-for-22 shooting vapor.

    There was little to nothing from Tatum and Jaylen Brown. They each had two points in the quarter. Meanwhile, the supporting cast, which defers to the two stars, looked uncomfortable when asked to do more than usual.

    And Boston was getting beat to loose balls and rebounds. The Celtics had just as many turnovers as baskets, and Tatum missed two of their four missed free throws in seven attempts. They almost went five minutes before scoring in the quarter.

    “When you’re not scoring the way you want to, it puts a lot of pressure on your defense,” Tatum said.

    The collapse actually began late in the third quarter and escalated from there. The Celtics allowed 35 points in the third, and a game was suddenly tightened. And the Celtics finished the night by missing 16 straight shots.

    “Got some good looks,” said coach Joe Mazzulla. “We weren’t able to capitalize.”

    3. Maxey too tough once again

    He’s everywhere, snatching loose balls, soaring over taller players to grab contested rebounds, dropping jumpers and of course changing gears while going downhill to the rim and finishing strong.

    He has been superb this series and the most consistent source of production for the Sixers. His value, pride, image and impact are all growing by the game. If there was any doubt previously, let it be erased by the receipts — Maxey is built for the stage.

    He had 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and just two turnovers in 43 minutes. The Celtics were justifiably concerned with Embiid but Maxey created nearly as many problems in Game 5.

    4. Derrick White’s best is needed, and quick

    He’s not the main reason this series is continuing, but a rather curious one. The Celtics are getting little from a player who usually makes big plays in a variety of ways. It has been a tough series for White, who seems caught in a fog.

    In the five games he’s shooting 30% from the floor and 21 from deep and averaging eight points. He also has his hands full defensively with Maxey and sometimes VJ Edgecombe. With Tatum back in the fold and Brown coming off an MVP-flavored season, White can roam free and sometimes unguarded. Yet that hasn’t helped so far.

    His scoring average in this series is roughly half of where it was during the season. And his missed shots have harmed possessions.

    Mazzulla stuck with him regardless. That’s how much faith the coach has in a player that helped win a championship. White played 36 minutes. Payton Pritchard has been a better option this series but was pulled in the fourth quarter, when the Sixers flexed and the Celtics went cold.

    If this continues in Game 6, Mazzulla’s patience could dip. It’s really up to White and his current slump and whether he can recapture his level of the regular season and return to form. If not, Pritchard can expected increased minutes and touches.

    The Knicks beat the Hawks 126-97, leading by as many as 32 points in front of their fans at Madison Square Garden.

    Jalen Brunson (39 pts, 8 ast, 1 turnover) was dominant, keying the Knicks to a 57% shooting night from the field and a 60-42 advantage in points in the paint.

    “We’ve got to be ready for the next game,” said Brunson. “The right mindset — this (game) is over with.”

    The Hawks had five scorers in double figures, led by Jalen Johnson (18 pts). This is the second time they’ve been held under 100 points in back-to-back games this season.

    Joel Embiid (33 pts) dominated the Celtics’ front line, while Tyrese Maxey (25 pts, 10 reb, 5 ast) and Paul George (18 pts, 9 reb, 7 ast, team-high +19) filled in the gaps.

    Quentin Grimes (18 pts, 4 3PM) added firepower in 24:04 off the Sixers’ bench.

    Jayson Tatum (24 pts, 16 reb) starred for the Celtics, while Jaylen Brown (24 pts) contributed.

    But Payton Pritchard (12 pts) was the only other player to reach double figures, as the team shot just 28.2% from 3-point range.

    Millonarios buscó por todos los medios el gol, se acercó, puso a sufrir por momentos a Sao Paulo en El Campín, pero no encontró el tanto que le diera la victoria este martes en la Copa Sudamericana. El empate 0-0 dejó amargados a los embajadores, que quedaron con la sensación de que pudieron y debieron ganarle al favorito del grupo, que estaba repleto de suplentes.

    Millonarios no lució en el primer tiempo. Sao Paulo se veía superior, con mucho aire, con apertura de la cancha constante. Pudo celebrar el primer gol en un cabezazo de André Silva. Novoa estaba vencido, le hacía vista a la pelota, pero Sarabia apareció de manera milagrosa y de cabeza sacó el balón de la línea de gol.  

    El juego de Millonarios estaba nublado en ese primer tiempo. Sao Paulo le llegaba con facilidad. Mackalister no tocaba la pelota y Contreras, desconectado, se rebuscaba uno que otro remate. Andrés Llinás tuvo un cabezazo que se fue muy por arriba. 

    Sin embargo, lo mejor del primer tiempo sí fue para los azules, cuando el defensor Arias fue a campo rival y sacó un potente remate que se fue desviado.

    Arrancó el segundo tiempo y Millonarios fue otro, más ofensivo y más claro, más decidido también. Leo Castro apareció y empezó a ser importante. Tuvo un buen remate cruzado que se desvió al tiro de esquina. 

    El propio Castro lanzó un muy buen centro, el arquero vio pasar la pelota, vencido, y en el segundo palo cuando Contreras ya preparaba el cabezazo, apareció Sabino, quien se le anticipó y le sacó la pelota de cabeza. 

    Pero Millonarios estaba motivado, encontró claridad y huecos. Sao Paulo se quedó en lo físico. Luego entró Darwin Quintero y en velocidad encaró y sacó un buen remate. La pelota pegó en la red pero por fuera.

    El técnico Fabián Bustos pedía paciencia, calma, que no desesperaran. El gol azul se veía venir, aunque corriendo todos los riesgos, porque de vez en cuando Sao Paulo atacaba con peligro. 

    Millonarios aprovechó la media distancia, probó varias veces. Ureña y Mateo García lanzaron sus remates. Los minutos pasaban y el gol no llegaba. La afición confiaba en que en algún momento aparecería un salvador, tal como pasó contra Boston River, pero se empezó a desesperar.

    Ya sobre el final, en medio de los ruegos y el clamor de toda la afición, Millonarios casi lo gana, con un cabezazo de Angulo que desvió el portero. Eso fue lo último. El gol salvador no llegó y el equipo embajador dejó escapar dos puntos en casa en el grupo C. Ahora visitan a Boston River.

    En la lógica del técnico Néstor Lorenzo, Díaz hace la fila tras un notable jugador con muy, muy escasa actividad en un equipo discreto como Minnesota United de la MLS. ¿Protestar? Díaz no es de ese talante. Es demasiado grande el sueño de su primer Mundial con su país como para quedarse en esa mezquindad.

    Aquí hay que reducirle esfuerzos a James en vez de fabricarle un entorno a la única estrella mundial de la que se dispone. Hay que sacrificar a Arias, Suárez, Ríos y demás para que uno de los once no camine de más.

    Inmigrante mexicano termina detenido después de hacerse pasar en varias ocasiones por agente fronterizo

    Ante un tribunal federal en San Diego, California, Jaime Ernesto Álvarez González, inmigrante de origen mexicano quien desde hace años residía en el Sur de California con una visa de turista vencida, se declaró culpable de cargos relacionados con la suplantación de identidad de un agente fronterizo, posesión de armas de fuego y estancia ilegal en el territorio estadounidense.

    De acuerdo con una investigación llevada a cabo por la Patrulla Fronteriza (USBP), el sujeto en cuestión llevaba tiempo vistiéndose con ropa similar a la utilizada por el personal de inmigración durante sus operativos.

    Su objetivo consistía en causar confusión para evitar la detención de extranjeros carentes de estatus legal como era su caso.

    De acuerdo con un comunicado emitido por el Departamento de Justicia, el 8 de enero, Álvarez González siguió a un agente de la Patrulla Fronteriza, mientras ambos conducían camionetas Ford F-150 negras.

    En cierta parte de su trayecto, el oficial creyó que el vehículo cercano al suyo pertenecía a otro agente federal legítimo y por ello optó por abandonar su misión ya que pretendía evitar entrar en conflicto.

    Sin embargo, ya existían algunos informes señalando que, en ocasiones anteriores, Álvarez González había insultado a verdaderos oficiales exigiéndoles retirarse de la zona que presuntamente patrullaba.

    Ante dicha situación, se organizó un operativo a cargo de agentes del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de Estados Unidos (ICE) para confrontarlo.

    De esa manera se descubrió cómo suplantaba al personal de USBP, pero además, al revisar el vehículo donde se desplazab,a se descubrieron tres armas de fuego.

    Al verse acorralado, Álvarez confesó ser mexicano y llevar varios años residiendo en California con una visa vencida, la cual no le permitía adquirir, ni mucho menos portar, ningún tipo de arma.

    Por si esto fuera poco, su vehículo tenía montada una calcomanía de la USBP en el parabrisas y estaba equipado con antenas de radio de comunicaciones en el techo, una barra de luces en el tablero, un portaplacas con la inscripción “Federal Truck” y esposas colgando del espejo retrovisor.

    Frente a tantas anomalías, el hombre de 53 años fue arrestado el 14 de enero mientras vestía ropa similar a la de un oficial de inmigración incluida una mascarilla y una gorra de beisbol con la línea verde delgada.

    Luego de acreditarle la portación de una pistola Glock 26 de 9 mm, un rifle Aero Precision Modelo X15 Multi-Calibre tipo AR y una pistola Interarms Hellpup de 7.62×39 tipo AK, así como cartuchos y municiones, su situación legal se complicó todavía más.

    Ahora, gran parte de su destino dependerá del fiscal auxiliar Siddharth Dadhich.

    Ccientos de miles de personas enfrentan un limbo migratorio en Estados Unidos tras decisiones que han pausado la revisión de solicitudes de visa, residencia permanente, permisos de trabajo y ciudadanía. La situación ha generado la paralización de procesos clave para estudiar, trabajar o permanecer legalmente en el país.

    Según el reporte, las medidas afectan a personas nacidas en 39 países, entre ellos Nigeria, Myanmar y Venezuela. Detalla que estas restricciones se implementaron después de un tiroteo ocurrido a finales de noviembre en Washington D.C., en el que un ciudadano afgano atacó a dos miembros de la Guardia Nacional.

    Estudiantes y trabajadores en sectores STEM, entre los más afectados

    De acuerdo con los testimonios, el impacto alcanza a personas que estudian o trabajan en sectores como tecnología, medicina, petróleo y gas, áreas consideradas dentro de STEM (ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas), quienes reportan pérdida de empleo, interrupción de estudios y creciente incertidumbre económica.

    La publicación señala que los casos descritos fueron compartidos bajo anonimato debido al temor de posibles consecuencias en sus procesos migratorios. Una de las personas entrevistadas, originaria de Myanmar y dedicada a la investigación clínica oncológica en Ohio, afirmó que estaba por recibir un ascenso antes de que su autorización de trabajo quedara suspendida.

    Impacto en familias, trabajadores y economía

    Según lo documentado, la situación también afecta a ciudadanos estadounidenses que buscan regularizar la situación migratoria de sus cónyuges, así como a sectores que dependen del talento extranjero, especialmente en áreas STEM.

    Añade que trabajadores nacidos en el extranjero tienen una participación relevante en estas áreas, de acuerdo con datos citados en la investigación.

    Casos de oportunidades detenidas

    Se cita el caso de una médica originaria de Nigeria que fue aceptada en una residencia quirúrgica en Oregón, pero no ha podido iniciar debido a la falta de resolución de su estatus migratorio.

    También destaca que algunos migrantes han pagado hasta $3,000 dólares por procesamiento prioritario, sin que sus trámites hayan avanzado. Un ingeniero en Texas afirmó que tuvo que rechazar ofertas laborales debido a la falta de autorización de trabajo.

    Procesos legales y acumulación de solicitudes

    La situación ha derivado en al menos 33 demandas legales. Abogados estiman que cerca de la mitad de las solicitudes ante el Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS) están afectadas por estas pausas.

    También indica que existen casi 12 millones de trámites pendientes, de los cuales cientos de miles aún no han sido revisados.

    Política migratoria

    Durante la campaña de 2024, el entonces candidato Donald Trump expresó apoyo a facilitar la residencia permanente para estudiantes extranjeros graduados. Sin embargo, tras su regreso a la presidencia, su administración ha impulsado un enfoque más restrictivo en los procesos migratorios.

    Según el Departamento de Seguridad Naciona estas medidas buscan reforzar los controles de seguridad y prevenir abusos, especialmente en países considerados de alto riesgo.

    Incertidumbre prolongada

    Destacó que consecuencias también afectan a familias que enfrentan obstáculos para avanzar en trámites básicos como vivienda, cuentas bancarias o planificación de vida.

    Especialistas citados señalan que se trata de un nivel inédito de control migratorio interno sobre personas con procesos legales en curso, mientras continúan las disputas judiciales y la falta de resolución para miles de solicitantes.

    “Ya se nos acercó Netflix”, soltó Poncho de Nigris, confirmando que las conversaciones existen y que el proyecto está lejos de ser una simple ocurrencia. Incluso adelantó que el verdadero reto no es hacerse viral sino lograr que la gente no se despegue de la pantalla durante transmisiones largas.

    Más que solo aventar gente a pelear, Ring Royale 2 quiere contar el chisme completo. La idea es construir la bronca desde semanas antes: declaraciones cruzadas, indirectas en redes, videos polémicos y egos chocando hasta que ya no quede de otra más que verse la cara en el ring. No se trata solo del golpe final, sino de todo lo que pasa alrededor: la preparación, las provocaciones y esa tensión deliciosa que hace que el público esté esperando el combate como si fuera el final de un reality.

    La nueva edición de Ring Royale no solo crecería en producción, también en provocación. Poncho de Nigris adelantó que uno de los planes más comentados es sumar combates de pesos completos, incluso con participantes que superen los 250 kilos.

    “En la próxima edición posiblemente viene el combate de pesos completos de 250 kilos, dos personas gorditas”, comentó, dejando claro que el formato seguirá apostando por lo inesperado y lo incómodo.

    El creador también reconoció que, aunque se trata de espectáculo, habrá mayor preparación y cuidados, especialmente si participan personas mayores o con condiciones físicas particulares. Aun así, el tono irreverente seguirá siendo el sello del proyecto.

    Parte del atractivo, aceptó, está en no suavizar el concepto y conectar con el tipo de entretenimiento que domina en redes sociales, donde lo políticamente correcto rara vez manda.
