Caleb Wilson is leading the Bulls against the Lakers on Prime as the 2026 NBA Summer League continues.

Welcome to Day 8 of the 2026 NBA Summer League, as we prepare to find out who advances to the semifinals of this year’s tournament!

Led by No. 25 pick Sergio De Larrea (9 reb, 14 ast) and the high-flying acrobatics of Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu (12 pts, 5 reb), the Mavericks defeated the Thunder 97-87.

The Rockets beat the Nets 103-83, led by backcourt mates Bruce Thornton (23 pts) and Tristen Newton (20 pts), giving them a 3-1 record and a chance to make the semifinals.

Now, we have Lakers-Bulls (6 ET, Prime Video), headlined by No. 4 pick Caleb Wilson, rocking in the Thomas & Mack Center, with Warriors-Knicks (7 ET, ESPN2) rolling in the Pavilion.

    JULY 16 / 7:20 p.m. ET

    Caleb with the chase down

The Lakers have extended their lead to 66-42 with 5:42 to go in the third, but Caleb Wilson put up an eye-catching block here.

The 6-foot-10 forward has go-go-Gadget arms at times.

    JULY 16 / 7:04 p.m. ET

Lakers lead at the half with semifinal berth on the line

Los Angeles is up 56-40 after a physical first half, which ended with the teams jawing as they went to the locker room.

“It definitely got a little bit chippy. Everybody’s fighting for that Summer League title,” said Jon Elmore (6 pts, 3 ast).

Nine Lakers have scored so far, led by Chris Mañon (10 pts, 5 reb), while Caleb Wilson (11 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast) leads the Bulls.

“Ricky Bobby would appreciate — if you’re not first, you’re last,” said Prime’s Brendan Glasheen. “Shake and bake!”

    JULY 16 / 6:50 p.m. ET

No. 11 pick Yaxel Lendeborg has shown a little bit of everything for the Warriors (2-1), but hasn’t had a huge scoring game so far in Vegas.

Will he go off against the Knicks (1-2), who have physical, talented forwards?

    JULY 16 / 6:40 p.m. ET

    Rockets win 103-83

Bruce Thornton (23 pts, 4 reb, 2 ast, 2 stl) and Tristen Newton (20 pts, 6 reb, 2 stl) attacked to lead the Rockets to a win over the Nets and a 3-1 record, which places them in the semifinals at this point.

“We play basketball to win,” said Newton. “We came out here to win the whole championship, so hopefully we make the playoffs and win the whole championship.”

Houston shot 12-for-24 (50%) from 3-point range in the victory.

Egor Dёmin (21 pts, 3 ast, 2 stl) led the way for the Nets, while Mikel Brown Jr. (14 pts on 15 shots) battled for his offensive production.

    Watch highlights from the game.

    JULY 16 / 6:33 p.m. ET

    Rookies trading flashes

Caleb Wilson (7 pts, 1 ast, 1 stl) just dropped a dime on a nice bounce pass through traffic, followed by a pull-up jumper from Cameron Carr (4 pts, 1 stl).

Good to see Wilson showing passing vision — he could be a meaningful secondary playmaker for the Bulls, providing some Blake Griffin or Kevin Garnett-esque value on the short roll.

Carr looks smooth — Jim Jackson’s Mikal Bridges comp rang true on his shot.

31-25 Lakers with 7:27 to go in the half.

    JULY 16 / 6:00 p.m. ET

Lakers–Bulls about to tip on Prime

No. 24 pick Cameron Carr and No. 4 Caleb Wilson are both suited up and ready to hit the hardwood as our action continues in the Thomas & Mack Center.

Los Angeles is in the driver’s seat for a spot in the semifinals. If they win, they’re in.

    JULY 16 / 5:45 p.m. ET

    Mavericks win 97-87

The Mavericks had six players in score in double figures to help them even their record at 2-2.

Sergio De Larrea (2 pts, 9 reb, 14 ast) and Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu (12 pts, 5 reb) formed a dynamite pick-and-roll combination, while John Poulakidas (19 pts, 5 3PM), Darin Green (18 pts, 4 3PM) and Vsevolod Ishchenko (12 pts, 2 3PM) went off from long range.

“I think today we had a lot of 2-on-1 advantages… Great shooters,” said De Larrea. “KO, we have a great connection.”

Dallas scored 34 points off De Larrea’s assists.

Books Barnhizer (21 pts, 12 reb, 5 ast) did a bit of everything to help the Thunder stay in it.

“What a show these young men put on for us today, and for the crowd,” said Prime’s Teresa Weatherspoon. “KO, you were everywhere my guy… and know De Larrea — know him. His vision is unreal.”

    Watch highlights from the game.

    JULY 16 / 5:25 p.m. ET

    Thornton to the rack

The all-time leading scorer at Ohio State takes one to the rack here, showing his burst and strong frame on the drive. He could be a complementary guard for the Rockets, playing off the size and defensive presences around him.

The 22-year-old guard is listed at 6-foot-2, 215, and was durable in college, only missing one game in his four-year career with the Buckeyes. He’s also the program’s all-time leader in made free throws.

    JULY 16 / 4:50 p.m. ET

    Dallas-OKC in a close one

Mavericks up 49-45 at the half, as Darin Green Jr. (11 pts, 3 3PM) leads them in scoring in a free-flowing battle in the Thomas & Mack Center.

Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu (6 pts, 4 reb) made a splash in the first half with his leaping ability, including three crazy alley-oops.

“I always try to come off the bench, give us some energy,” said Akobundu-Ehiogu. “I can see the energy in the gym shifting.”

Former Piston Buddy Boeheim (13 pts, 2 3PM) got hot to lead the Thunder.

    JULY 16 / 4:30 p.m. ET

We’ve got No. 6 pick Mikel Brown Jr. in action coming up, as the Nets take on the Rockets.

    JULY 16 / 4:15 p.m. ET

    Kaodirichi Akobundu-Ehiogu soars

The 6-foot-10 forward soared to the rim for three straight alley-oops, including a wild one-handed slam on a long-range lob from Sergio De Larrea. Highlights to open Thursday’s action.

“Who would think he would get this? But he did,” said Prime’s Teresa Weatherspoon. “Talk to me nice — I like it.”

“Box office!” said Prime’s Brendan Glasheen.

    JULY 16 / 3:30 p.m. ET

  • Beckham Black, Cayden Daughtry lead 2026 Nike EYBL Peach Jam top performers

Beckham Black, Cayden Daughtry lead 2026 Nike EYBL Peach Jam top performers

Cayden Daughtry’s among the top performers from 2026 Nike Peach Jam.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The biggest summer AAU event tipped off this week at Nike’s Peach Jam with current NBA players and former NBA players coaching their club teams through pool play vying to make the playoffs.

Chris Paul is coaching his 17U program, Team CP3, Brad Beal is the head coach of his 16U team, Brad Beal Elite and Jamal Crawford is coaching his son JJ and the 16U team for NW Rotary. Beal and Crawford went head-to-head from the sidelines and it was Brad Beal Elite that edged out Crawford’s team 68-67. Paul George is here supporting his teams for PG Elite and Anthony Black is on the sidelines for every one of his younger brother Beckham’s games for his program, AB Elite.

Eight players across the EYBL are coming off a gold medal win in Istanbul at the U17 FIBA World Cup and haven’t been home in over a month. Beckham Black, Cayden Daughtry, A.J. Williams, NaVorro Bowman Jr., Mason Collins, Eric Dampier Jr., Asa Montgomery and JJ Crawford went from Team USA tryouts, to the FIBA World Cup, then straight to Las Vegas for EYBL Session 4 and their final stop being Peach Jam.

“I would say we’re all a little tired but this is what we’ve worked for the entire summer and I’m not going to slow down now,” Black told NBA.com. “I’m going to take care of my body and rest and do recovery but I’m here to win every time I step on the court.”

It’s been an exciting week as teams look to advance out of pool play. The semifinals and finals will be Saturday and Sunday at Riverview Park Center and live on NBA TV starting at 9am ET. Here are the top performers of the tournament through pool play.

    Beckham Black, Class of 2027

Beckham is the younger brother of Orlando Magic guard Anthony. He is the newly minted No. 1 player in the 2027 high school class after Marcus Spears Jr., opted to reclass up a grade and commit to play two years at Texas (he is not Draft eligible until 2028).

Beckham has been consistently climbing the ranks since the end of his high school season at Southeastern Prep Academy and led Team USA in assists (8.4) and was second in points (19.1) during the gold-medal run.

Beckham marched into Peach Jam to back up his No. 1-ranked status and made a strong statement in AB Elite’s second game of the tournament where he finished with 37 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in the 86-69 win over MeanStreets. He followed that up with 24 points and six assists in a win over Brad Beal Elite.

“It just goes to show the work he’s put in to be No.1,” Anthony said. “He’s really worked on his shot selection, particularly off the dribble, and gotten a lot stronger from last season.”

Beckham has an official visit set for Texas in the fall and other programs like Duke, USC, Georgetown, Michigan and Kansas are all in the mix.

    A.J. Williams, Class of 2028

Williams is the No. 1-ranked rising junior and he’s playing up a division with Team CP3.

The 6-foot-8 wing led the U16 division in scoring during Session 1 of the EYBL and he quickly moved up a division to play for Chris Paul and his coaching staff. Williams started for Team USA in Istanbul and averaged 20.7 points in Las Vegas prior to coming down to Augusta. In his second game against Team WhyNot, Williams went off and finished with 32 points and seven rebounds in the win.

In the third game against Arizona Unity, he struggled offensively in the first half but found other ways to impact the game. In the 4th quarter, he scored 13 points, finishing with 17 total and added nine rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win. Even though he’s playing up, he recognizes the pressure that comes with being the No. 1 player in his class but says it’s only the stepping stone to his ultimate goal of being the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft.

“Being No. 1 right now really doesn’t matter,” Williams said. “I want to be No. 1 when it’s draft day so right now, as a short-term goal, it’s cool but I want my name to be No. 1 when it’s called by the commissioner.”

    Cayden Daughtry, Class of 2027

Daughtry led all players in scoring during the EYBL regular season, averaging 25.6 points per game. Listed at 6-foot, Daughtry is the leading force behind the Florida Rebels 13-2 record and why they’re 3-0 in pool play. He is so quick and dynamic with the ball in his hands and finds ways to get a shot off from anywhere on the court.

In his first two games at Peach Jam, Daughtry put up 32 points, nine assists and seven steals against Team Melo and then dropped 34 points, seven assists and three steals in a win over Team Thad.

Daughtry is the No. 9-ranked player in his high school class and has seen his recruitment heat up after a fantastic spring and summer AAU season. Miami, Iowa, Florida State and Michigan are all making him a priority.

“There are glimpses of Trae Young and the way he played when he was this age,” one NBA scout said. “Just in his speed and size and his shot creation is very comparable to Trae when he was this age a year away from playing at Oklahoma.”

    Lewis Uvwo, Class of 2027

There is no better story in high school and grassroots basketball than Uvwo. He went from ranked 96th in his class to the No. 6 player in the country in just five months. This is his first AAU season and he joined Prolific Prep (Florida) mid-season last year after moving to the states from Nigeria. He’s a former player from the NBA Academy Africa and is the best rim protector in high school basketball.

Uvwo led the EYBL in blocked shots and in a crucial win over Team Herro, Uvwo finished with 10 blocks, 10 points and nine rebounds for Nightrydas Elite.

“I just love playing this game and I love making plays at the rim on both ends of the court,” Uvwo said. “I’m just trying to show all the coaches and scouts here that I’m more than just a rim protector and that I can dribble, pass off the block and knock down shots.”

Prior to the EYBL season, only BYU, UCLA and Florida State had offered the 6-foot-10 center. Now, every high-major program is getting involved with Duke and Kansas being his most recent offers.

NaVorro Bowman Jr., Class of 2027

Bowman is the son of former NFL All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman. His son elected to pursue basketball instead of football and the athleticism has carried over. Bowman is one of the best defending guards in high school and the advancements of his offensive game are making him a dynamic two-way player.

It was a wild finish when he squared off against his USA teammate Williams and Team CP3. Team WhyNot was down 12 with two minutes to go and Bowman scored 10 points in the final 30 seconds, including three consecutive tough 3-pointers from beyond NBA range. His team came up short in the 86-82 loss but Bowman was the star of the game, netting 33 points (including seven threes), five assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Bowman is ranked 16th in the incoming senior class and holds offers from UCLA, USC, Arizona, Cal, Stanford, Indiana and others.

  • The Athletic: What we learned from AJ Dybantsa’s summer league performance

The Wizards have seen enough from their No. 1 pick and other second-year players to shut them down for the rest of summer league.

Editor’s Note: Read more NBA coverage from The Athletic here. The views on this page do not necessarily reflect the views of the NBA or its teams.

LAS VEGAS — The Washington Wizards have shut down rookie wing AJ Dybantsa and second-year wings Will Riley and Tre Johnson for the remainder of the team’s NBA Summer League games, Wizards summer league coach T.J. Sorrentine told The Athletic on Tuesday.

The decision should not come as a surprise.

The Wizards opened their summer league camp July 2 in Washington, and they had five practice days before they left for Las Vegas.

Dybantsa, Riley and Johnson performed well during summer league play. Dybantsa, the top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in his two appearances. Riley averaged 25.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his two games. And Johnson scored 26 points in Washington’s summer league opener, his lone appearance.

There’s nothing left for any of them to prove.

“It’s a culmination of camp all the way through the games,” Sorrentine said. “It’s not just what (everyone’s) seen on TV. We’ve had a good camp, a lot of good practices and shootarounds and a couple of good games.”

His scoring ability and knack for drawing fouls continued during his two summer league appearances, and he made 12 of his 14 free-throw attempts. Those free-throw figures don’t tell the full story, because the NBA is testing an experimental free-throw rule during summer league play in which players shoot just one free throw for any foul that would normally result in multiple free-throw attempts. (The experimental rule is suspended during the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and in overtime.)

If there are quibbles about Dybantsa’s summer league performance, they would be that he shot only 39.4 percent from the field and made only one of his 11 3-point attempts. Many of his jumpers were short, a sign of fatigue from the summer league practices and games. Honing his jump shot will be a focus for him before the Wizards convene for training camp in late September.

Dybantsa demonstrated potential on defense, recording three blocks in his two summer league appearances. After Washington’s second exhibition game, Sorrentine said Dybantsa has the potential to develop into an all-defensive team player.

Second-year wing Jamir Watkins, who tweaked his left knee during the Wizards’ summer league opener Thursday, will miss his second straight game Tuesday night, when Washington faces Chicago at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center.

  • Giannis Antetokounmpo’s arrival tips off new must-watch era for Heat

Heat president Pat Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra pose with Giannis Antetokounmpo at his introductory press conference.

When Pat Riley assumed control of the Miami Heat basketball operations, he pledged never to embrace rebuilding and always to seek a superstar. Three decades later, he remains true to his word.

His third, and perhaps final, game-changing import might be the trickiest. Giannis Antetokounmpo follows Shaquille O’Neal (2004) and LeBron James (2010) to Miami and, as much as those Kia MVPs did, brings a heightened sense of hope and aspiration, all while arriving with a singular purpose.

The circumstances surrounding Antetokounmpo’s arrival are different from Miami’s previous two experiences, though. This process becomes a joint effort if the Heat wants to achieve the same result: a chance to win another championship.

Antetokounmpo believes he didn’t leave his winning years back in Milwaukee, and he’s bringing the same standards to Miami, which he reiterated Thursday at his introduction.

“I need pressure at this time of my career,” Antetokounmpo said. “I think in order for me to go to the next level, I’ve got to get out of my comfort zone — and I feel like Miami was the place for me to be.”

“One of my goals is to win a lot of championships,” Antetokounmpo said. “I think this is the best route for me to do that.”

He’s also encouraged by the chance to tag-team with fellow big man Bam Adebayo, especially after spending his final season with the Bucks without an All-Star teammate. That duo promises to be tough at both rims, and enough to make the Heat a championship contender.

“Giannis wants to win. Coach wants to win. Our fan base wants to win. And that’s our plan,” Riley made clear Thursday. “We’re going to go for it.”

Antetokounmpo, 31, remains a top-five player in the league and is still going downhill at the rim without brakes. Since 2018-19, the first of his back-to-back Kia MVPs, he finished top-four in the voting every year except last season (and that’s likely only because he missed 47 games).

That’s where it gets interesting with Antetokounmpo. It’s all about his health and availability from here. Antetokounmpo has played 70 or more games only once since 2021-22, when the league returned to its 82-game schedule following the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019-20. Last season was especially frustrating from that standpoint, as issues with his calf, groin and knee conspired to keep him in street clothes.

Whether he thrives in Miami will start and end with that. Will the injuries, mainly caused by the speed at which he plays, continue to pile up? Or was the recent past just a temporary setback and Antetokounmpo’s dependability never becomes a major issue in the near future?

At least Miami is putting itself in position to reap the obvious benefits of Antetokounmpo should he stay healthy. Before last season, Antetokounmpo had averaged at least 30 points per game in each of the past three seasons. He’s a reliable rebounder (9.9 rpg in his career) and elite defender, especially at the basket (he was Kia Defensive Player of the Year in 2018-19).

In short, his presence is undeniable.

    Miami knows superstars well

On July 14, 2004, the Lakers sent Shaquille O’Neal to the Miami Heat for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, Brian Grant and a future first-round pick.

And how many franchises have had the luxury of luring three players with now a combined seven MVPs, eight Finals MVPs and nine championships?

This Miami superstar experience started with O’Neal, the first to change the trajectory of the franchise. Until then, Miami was a respectable 50-game winner with Alonzo Mourning but couldn’t beat Michael Jordan — no shame, because nobody could then — and others in the East. A momentary stumble put the Heat in position to take Dwyane Wade in the same draft as James, giving Miami a young future star, as it turned out.

O’Neal was at first the Heat’s 300-pound heavy, bringing championship experience, larger-than-life celebrity and diesel fuel. A breakup with Kobe Bryant and a demand for a $100 million extension — rare back then — forced a trade from the Lakers. Suddenly, Miami was all-in.

The fun with O’Neal lasted 3 1/2 seasons and was a beast initially, narrowly losing the MVP in 2004-05 to Steve Nash while helping Miami win an Eastern Conference-best 59 games. The next season, the Heat won the championship, but along the way, and especially during the 2006 NBA Finals, a transition happened — this was Wade’s team.

O’Neal began to fade, physically and impactfully, and rather rapidly. He was 32 when he arrived in Miami, a year younger than Antetokounmpo, and by 34 his knees and fitness level were problematic. He averaged just 13 points in the 2006 NBA Finals, was carried by Wade the following season, and shipped to Phoenix by the middle of the 2007-08 season.

But that championship made it all worthwhile.

And that goes twice for James. For all of the seismic activity that followed “The Decision”, his move to Miami was a certified smash for the franchise.

And, though some might not want to admit it, for the league as well. By teaming James with Wade and Chris Bosh, the “Big Three” in Miami grabbed the attention of casual basketball fans and ratings soared. Because this happened right at the start of the social media explosion, the product became a more valuable commodity, grabbed a growing demographic and ultimately led to billion-dollar media contracts.

LeBron James and the Miami Heat finally reach their ultimate goal with two straight NBA titles.

It also coincided with the best stretch of LeBron’s career, which says plenty. He won two of his four Kia MVPs, went to the Finals each of his four seasons and twice won titles. The LeBron experience wasn’t “not one, not two, not three” but a hard act to follow, if not impossible, regardless.

Outlook for Heat in Antetokounmpo era?

Because of the new cap rules and salary-cap aprons put in place since then, the challenge for Miami in the Antetokounmpo era is prickly. With the “Big Three,” the Heat managed to supplement the roster with multiple players willing to accept less money — the Ray Allens, Shane Battiers, etc., but that was then.

It’s now a chore to have two All-Stars, let alone three, in this new cap era. For the time being, Antetokounmpo must settle for Adebayo until further notice, all while getting older and dealing with the issues that come with age.

Despite all that, the Heat with Antetokounmpo are better positioned now than last season.

They were starved for outside shooting, a paramount need with a pair of so-so shooters in Antetokounmpo and Adebayo, until the recent signing of Tim Hardaway Jr., who should see a fair amount of open looks — the 34-year-old shot 40.7% on 3-pointers last season with Denver.

Bobby Portis Jr., who came with Antetokounmpo from the Bucks, provides another layer of paint presence and is a double-double threat at times.

Andrew Wiggins was a key re-signing as he remains a respectable perimeter defender who posted 15.4 ppg last season. That’s decent enough for a player who doesn’t demand or command a heavy amount of shots.

Then it’s about the young players — Pelle Larsson, Nikola Jović, Davion Mitchell specifically — and whether they can develop into better rotational pieces.

Finally, Miami might be able to add a cheap veteran to its mix. Someone such as former All-Stars DeMar DeRozan or Bradley Beal, both of whom can still get buckets at this advanced stage of their careers. Or former Kia MVP Russell Westbrook, if Miami feels it needs more experience, depth and stability at point guard. All of the players above have already amassed their millions, and none have won an NBA title.

Or maybe James comes aboard? Miami can offer him $6 million to return and start a new journey with Antetokounmpo and Adebayo. Now that would be quite the development.

The first task was adding a superstar. Miami just did that. The tough part is over. Or maybe it’s just beginning?

Just as it was when Shaquille O’Neal blew into town and when LeBron James brought his talents to South Beach, the Heat with Giannis Antetokounmpo will be well worth watching, one way or another.

    • “Váyanse a festejar a Argentina”

Mouhamed Gueye (left) has played three seasons with the Hawks since being drafted 39th overall in 2023.

ATLANTA  — Atlanta Hawks forward Mouhamed Gueye could miss the start of the 2026-27 season after having surgery for a fractured left foot suffered in a workout.

The Hawks announced on Wednesday that Gueye had the surgery on Tuesday after suffering the injury on July 8.

The 6-foot-11 Gueye averaged 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds for Atlanta last season. He played in 77 games, including eight starts, after making 28 starts and averaging 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in the 2024-25 season.

The Hawks say Gueye’s status will be updated in three to four months, a timeline which could overlap the start of next season.
