  • The Athletic: Steph Curry’s bond with Moses Moody on full display during Arkansas trip

Over Moses Moody’s five seasons in Golden State, he and Steph Curry have formed a connection strong enough to draw Curry to his teammate’s hometown for an offseason event.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Amy Williams’ house overlooks the fourth fairway at Maumelle Country Club, where summer mornings in this central Arkansas suburb are usually quiet enough to work with the windows open. On this Friday in late July, the social worker case manager looked up and saw a parade of commotion of golf carts while she worked from home. One after another passed her window. The steady stream followed the same group down the fairway.

Williams, 52, had a pretty good idea what was happening. The Maumelle All About Community Facebook group had been buzzing over the presence of Steph Curry.

“I’ve never played a casual golf round with that much attention,” Curry said.

The Golden State Warriors star played the round with two former Arkansas Razorbacks — Detroit Pistons guard Isaiah Joe and golfer John Daly II — at the annual Motivate One Summer Series golf tournament put on by Warriors forward Moses Moody and his foundation. Residents were informed Curry would play their neighborhood course. Still, something about it felt unbelievable.

Williams moved to Maumelle seven years ago. No one this famous has shown up. She stepped away from work, climbed into her family’s golf cart and joined the convoy. She followed Curry’s group as it finished holes four and five. After watching Curry tee off at six, she went back home to finish working. The internet was out.

“God gave me a sign,” Williams said with a smile beneath her glasses.

She filed back into the parade of some 20 golf carts, most with multiple passengers of a wide range of ages, motoring from hole to hole. Williams doesn’t follow basketball much anymore, so she still counts Grant Hill as her favorite player. But she knew Curry was a big deal, enough to text snapshots to her daughter and niece as a flex.

“It’s different even just seeing him here, talking to him in Arkansas,” said Moody, who could only watch the golf tournament as he recovers from a torn left patellar tendon. “That’s a crazy concept to me. I met Steph Curry five years ago, and now he’s here in Arkansas. … You can say you like somebody. You can say you rock with somebody. But to actually come and do something like this, it really just makes me feel good about myself, for one, and it’s cool to know he thinks so highly of me.”

Curry can go almost anywhere in the world and draw a crowd. But he wasn’t in Little Rock because of a sponsor. He didn’t make his first trip to Arkansas due to an NBA obligation. He went because Moody asked him to come.

In this distinction lies the significance of this weekend and why it felt bigger than a mere celebrity appearance.

Moody has become one of the brightest success stories of Arkansas’ rich basketball community. Though he transferred to prep powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida after leading North Little Rock High School, he came home to play for the Razorbacks. The pride of his city, his state, is now an NBA champion who calls future Hall of Famers his teammates.

Success has a way of pulling people further from where they started. Moody plies his craft 2,000-plus miles away, far from the neighborhoods on the banks of the Arkansas River where he developed his sense. His off-court aspirations take him from Silicon Valley to Hollywood.

But Moody, who had successful surgery four months ago, also measures success by what he brings back home. This summer — along with the camps, career workshops, important conversations and perspective-shaping inspiration — he brought one of the world’s biggest stars.

Curry served as a macro star of this four-day event and as a microcosm of Moody’s mission. He left home always intending to return with whatever he discovered. What Moody brings back paints a picture of what he’s seen, what he’s learned and who he is. Exactly who home raised him to be.

His character earned him a significant space in the Warriors’ ecosystem. It’s part of the reason he remains while others have departed. And if his recovery is tied to his constitution, it’s why Curry and the Warriors can put their hope in his returning to his former level. He’s the type they bet on.

“Even though there is a 15-year-old age gap,” Curry said, “which is crazy because he feels like the same age. Sometimes he feels older than me, for sure.

“Just his curiosity for life. The questions he has. Just the spirit he has. And that was from Day 1. … And you kind of understand it means so much to him to be able to have this weekend and this presence here. When he asked me, it was kind of a no-brainer. What makes it even more special is how invested he is, and his family is, in the work they’re doing here.”

Monty Patel, the boys basketball coach at North Little Rock High, availed his office to the festivities. He left a blue No. 30 Warriors jersey and a white No. 4 USA Basketball jersey folded neatly on the tables at the center of the office. A black Sharpie rested atop the jerseys, just in case Curry stopped by.

Patel’s heart was already full, though. He’d just started what he calls the best job in the state two weeks earlier. The 36-year-old small-town Arkansas native, who’s called Little Rock home for the past 15 years, understood the significance of seeing Curry walk into the gym of his Charging Wildcats. Patel knew exactly what it meant for an NBA all-time great to be in their world.

“Moses is so big in this community,” Patel said. “He’s brought a guy back every year. Rich Paul. Klay Thompson. Draymond Green. And now he brought Steph, one of the biggest people to ever come to our state. A generational athlete and an inspiration. He plays the role-model role so well, and so does Moses.

“Steph being here is just awesome to just show the power of this place.”

On this morning, their court belonged to Curry.

The greatest shooter ever stood on the hardwood where Patel would soon blow his whistle and bark out plays. With Moody by his side, Curry laughed through shooting games, high-fived kids during drills and offered shooting tips. He played knockout with the campers, gave them all a pep talk and eventually gathered everyone into a circle at midcourt. Curry broke the huddle. Family and friends watched from the seats in the mini arena, their smiles unrelenting, phones raised to capture the moments. Awe permeated the gym.

The scene repeated itself all weekend.

Everywhere he went, people kept thanking him. For visiting and bringing his prestige with him. For spending time in their city.

Curry processed the sentiment, flattered by the validation in their gratitude. He isn’t used to that. He’s visited non-NBA cities before, felt the charge of their fervor. Paris. Tokyo. Beijing. Manila. He’s had thousands waiting in line, packing gyms and mobbing him in public spaces.

Fame taught him to expect chaotic excitement. But Arkansas expressed appreciation differently. They didn’t treat him like an attraction passing through, but like a guest they were proud to host.

“There was a level of excitement,” Curry said, “and it’s a bit awkward because it’s less about like, ‘Oh, I’ve been watching you forever,’ and it’s really just, ‘Thank you for coming to our city.’ That is a cool difference from other places.”

This trip to Arkansas also reinforced what Curry already believed about the teammate who drew him there.

The Warriors didn’t overhaul their roster this summer. They’re banking on continuity improving last year’s squad that missed the playoffs. And part of that wager is on Moody, who spent much of last season as a vital cog in the Warriors’ rotation before injury interrupted arguably the best stretch of his career.

“You can say you rock with somebody. But to actually come and do something like this, it really just makes me feel good,” Moody says of Curry’s participation.

Curry seemed comfortable making that bet. He’s watched Moody grow from a quiet 19-year-old rookie on the end of the bench into one of the distributors of wisdom in the locker room.

“I heard somebody say a long time ago you want to grow while you stay the same,” Moody said during a talk show-style event in front of 700 attendees at Statehouse Convention Center on Friday night.

“I like that,” Curry said next to Moody on stage. “That’s a great comment, perspective of life.”

Moody earned credibility with his perspective and poise, his work ethic and discipline. Those traits define Moody. And now the Warriors, and Curry, desperately need them.

Curry knows about offseasons consumed by rehab. He’s never had an injury as serious as Moody’s, but he knows the grind and mental gymnastics of working back to the court. So he recognizes Moody’s unwavering optimism through the tedious routine of recovery. When they were on the court drilling with the young hoopers, Curry witnessed Moody’s restraint against the temptation to rush the process. Moody looked like he was itching to join the campers in ballhandling drills, but opted to simply be a passer.

“He’s committed to the work,” Curry said. “He’s not fighting it.”

Moody has been rehabbing in the Bay Area. He’s targeting September to resume running and returning to on-court work. Next season’s hope floats on Curry’s ability to carry the load until Moody and Jimmy Butler, recovering from a torn ACL, return to playing.

This weekend, and the sense of purpose it gives Moody, plays a role in his recovery. Delivering to his community has been an antidote for the monotony and frustration of rehab.

“It was cool just having a vision in your head and then making it come to fruition,” Moody said, “and being able to actually see it turn out even better than you could have imagined it.

“He was everything you could have ever asked him to be,” Moody said of Curry. “He flew in, woke up at 4 o’clock in the morning Friday to get here by seven for the golf tournament. Then he woke up at 6 in the morning Saturday to be here at the school for the event. He had the energy and the effort for everybody. I hope he enjoyed it. I think he did.”

Curry did find a moment Saturday to wrap his mind around the weekend experience.

Organizers had converted the administrative conference room at North Little Rock High into a green room of sorts. He sat at the end of a long table and downed a smoothie, then nibbled on gourmet popcorn from a local confectionary while taking a personal call. And then Curry took a moment to reflect.

He reached beneath the sleeve of his Moses Moody camp T-shirt, fidgeting with his right shoulder, as he listed the highlights of his trip to Arkansas: Moody sharing the sights and memories of his hometown with such passion. Spending time in the swaddle of small-town love, reminding him of his Charlotte roots and even kicking up his drawl. Taking in the outdoor beauty of The Natural State, with its greenery and swamps.

Oh, and “this,” Curry said, lifting the sleeve to reveal two visible red circles on his right shoulder. “The bug bites.”

Indeed, Arkansas left its mark on Curry.

    Gianni Infantino Foto:EFE y AFP

    Gianni Infantino Foto:Gianni Infantino

    Gianni Infantino Foto:EFE

    Gianni Infantino Foto:EFE

    Gianni Infantino Foto:Gianni Infantino

“No sé cuánto tiempo debo continuar.

Realmente no sé qué voy a hacer.

  • Top 5 all-time Minnesota Timberwolves scoring leaders

Top 5 all-time Minnesota Timberwolves scoring leaders

Anthony Edwards ranks third in Timberwolves history in scoring after just six seasons.

After being founded in 1989, the Minnesota Timberwolves have seen their fair share of versatile scorers in their time. Kevin Garnett, who won the MVP award in 2003, is perched at the top of the list for now, but Anthony Edwards is in hot pursuit.

    Kevin Garnett – 19,201 Points

Garnett left his mark on the Wolves, playing his first 12 seasons in Minnesota and averaging at least 20 points in nine of them. The fifth pick of the 1995 NBA Draft became Minnesota’s first face of the franchise and it shows. Not only was he a versatile scorer, but he’s ranked number one in multiple statistical categories for the Timberwolves. After departing to Boston & winning a title in 2008, having a stop in Brooklyn, Garnett returned to the Wolves via trade to complete his full circle moment.

    Karl-Anthony Towns – 13,121 Points

Before becoming an NBA champion with the New York Knicks in 2026, KAT spent his first nine seasons with the Wolves after being drafted No. 1 overall in 2015. Regarded as one of the league’s best shooting big men, he used that sweet stroke to land at the No. 2 spot on the Wolves’ all-time scoring list. Whether it’s stretching the floor or posting up, KAT was a Swiss army knife on offense and his four All-Star appearances in Minnesota prove that.

    Anthony Edwards – 10,854 Points

Edwards has gotten off to one of the hottest starts to a career in NBA history, becoming the third youngest player to score at least 10,000 points, trailing only LeBron James and Kevin Durant. The four-time All-Star averaged a career-high 28.8 points per game in the 2025-26 season, good enough for the third most in the NBA.

    Andrew Wiggins – 8,710 Points

Andrew Wiggins is the last No. 1 pick in this top five for the Wolves. The Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the first pick back in 2014, but he was traded later in the offseason for Kevin Love. Despite the trade, Wiggins was a productive scorer in his six seasons in Minnesota. He averaged 19.7 points per game and played in all 82 games in three of those seasons.

    Sam Mitchell – 7,161 Points

Mitchell spent 10 seasons in Minnesota, and it paid off for him, snagging the last spot on this list. He played in the Timberwolves inaugural season in the NBA and stuck around long enough to etch his name into the franchise’s lore. After his playing days, he’d go on to become the head coach of the Raptors from 2004-2008 and the Wolves in the 2015-16 season.

  • Top 5 all-time LA Clippers rebounding leaders

Top 5 all-time LA Clippers rebounding leaders

DeAndre Jordan has grabbed more than 7,000 rebounds as a member of the LA Clippers.

The Clippers franchise had two previous homes before relocating to Los Angeles in 1984. Founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, the team played eight seasons in upstate New York before relocating to San Diego in 1978 and rebranding as the Clippers. After six seasons in San Diego, the franchise moved north to Los Angeles, where it has spent the past four-plus decades.

From “Lob City” to the current era in Inglewood, the Clippers have provided highlights that still feel fresh.

They have three division titles to their name, with the most recent coming in 2024. Let’s take a look at some of the top rebounders from the LA Clippers franchise:

    1. DeAndre Jordan – 7,988 rebounds

An 18-year NBA veteran, Jordan made a lasting impact on the LA Clippers franchise as one half of the “Lob City” frontline duo alongside Blake Griffin. The Clippers selected him in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft.

Jordan spent 10 seasons with the Clippers, where he averaged 10.7 rebounds per game. His best rebounding season came in 2014, when he snagged 15.2 rpg. Jordan made an All-Star team during the 2017 NBA season.

    2. Ivica Zubac – 4,771 rebounds

After spending three seasons with the crosstown rival Lakers, Zubac was traded to the Clippers, where he played the ensuing eight.

During his time with the Clippers, Zubac averaged 6.3 rpg, with his best rebounding season coming during the 2024-25 campaign. He averaged 12.6 rebounds, with 8.9 of them being defensive boards.

Zubac developed into a solid double-double machine before being traded to the Indiana Pacers at the 2026 trade deadline.

    3. Elton Brand – 4,710 rebounds

Selected No. 1 overall by the Chicago Bulls in the 1999 NBA Draft, Brand was traded in 2001 to the LA Clippers, where he thrived.

In seven seasons with the Clippers, Brand made two All-Star teams and averaged 6.4 rebounds per game. He finished in the top 10 for Defensive Player of the Year voting during his 2005 All-Star season.

    4. Blake Griffin – 4,686 rebounds

Another No. 1 overall pick, the LA Clippers selected Griffin in the 2009 NBA Draft. He missed his rookie season due to injury, but made an immediate impact upon returning.

Griffin won the 2010 Rookie of the Year award, becoming the fourth LA Clipper to do so. He made five All-Star teams with the Clippers, pairing with Jordan to form the “Lob City” frontline duo.

In Griffin’s eight seasons with the Clippers, he averaged 9.3 rebounds per game, with his highest average being his first active season in 2010, at 12.1 rpg.

    5. Loy Vaught – 4,471 rebounds

The No. 13 pick by the LA Clippers in the 1990 NBA Draft, Vaught spent eight seasons with the Clippers, where he averaged 8.0 rebounds per game. His best rebounding season came in 1995-96, when he averaged 10.1 rpg.

  • Top 5 all-time Philadelphia 76ers scoring leaders

    Top 5 all-time Philadelphia 76ers scoring leaders

Hal Greer leads the 76ers’ all-time scoring list.

The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the NBA’s most storied franchises, capturing three NBA championships across three different decades and ranking third all-time in regular-season wins behind only the Celtics and Lakers. Along the way, some of basketball’s greatest players have called Philadelphia home. But when it comes to points scored in a Sixers uniform, no one tops Hall of Famer Hal Greer.

Here’s a look at the five leading scorers in franchise history:

    1. Hal Greer – 21,586 points

In 1955, Hal Greer broke the color barrier as the first African-American athlete to play for the traditionally white Marshall University in West Virginia. Three years later, he was drafted by the Syracuse Nationals. When the franchise relocated and became the Philadelphia 76ers in 1963, Greer remained a cornerstone of the team, averaging 19.2 points per game over his 15-year career and earning seven consecutive All-NBA Second Team selections during his peak in the 1960s.

Greer helped lead the 76ers to the 1967 NBA championship alongside Wilt Chamberlain, ending the Boston Celtics’ record streak of eight consecutive titles. He retired in 1973 as the NBA’s all-time leader in games played (1,122) and was later named to both the NBA 50 Greatest Players list and the NBA 75th Anniversary Team. In 1976, Greer became the first player in franchise history to have his jersey (No. 15) retired. He remains the 76ers’ all-time leading scorer.

    2. Allen Iverson – 19,931 points

If you know the 76ers, you know Allen Iverson. Selected No. 1 overall in the iconic 1996 NBA Draft, Iverson won Rookie of the Year after averaging 23.5 points per game—the 17th-highest scoring average by a rookie in NBA history. He went on to win four scoring titles, tied with George Gervin and Kevin Durant for the third most all-time, despite standing just 6-foot tall.

Iverson’s signature season came in 2000-01, when he became the shortest player to win NBA MVP, led the league in scoring and carried the Sixers to the NBA Finals. His unforgettable 48-point performance against Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, and the Lakers stole Game 1 in Los Angeles. An 11-time All-Star and seven-time All-NBA selection, Iverson ranks second on the 76ers’ all-time scoring list.

    3. Dolph Schayes – 18,438 points

Drafted in 1949 to the Syracuse Nationals, Dolph Schayes is the NBA’s original bucket getter. The 12-time All-Star and 1955 NBA champion spent his entire 16-year career (1949-64) with the Syracuse Nationals and Philadelphia 76ers, making 12 All-NBA teams along the way. Schayes was the top scorer in 13 of the club’s 17 years of existence before they became the Philadelphia 76ers in 1963. Schayes was ahead of his time as one of the first true stretch bigs. Despite standing at 6-foot-8 and playing power forward and center, he led the league in FT% three separate times, including a career-best 90.4% from the line on 9.7 attempts in 1957-58. He was the first player ever to reach 15,000 points and retired in 1964 holding the NBA records for most career points (18,438), field goals (6,135), and free throws made (6,979).

    4. Julius Erving – 18,364 points

Julius “Dr. J” Erving was one of basketball’s first true superstars. After establishing himself as an ABA legend, he joined the 76ers following the 1976 NBA-ABA merger, when Philadelphia acquired his rights from the New York Nets. Erving became one of the greatest players in franchise history, earning All-Star honors in all 11 of his seasons with the Sixers, winning the 1981 NBA MVP while averaging 22.0 points on 50.7% shooting.

He helped the franchise win the 1983 NBA championship with a sweep of Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the Lakers. An aerial artist whose above-the-rim style captivated fans, Erving helped redefine the game and inspired generations of players, including Michael Jordan.

    5. Charles Barkley – 14,184 points

These days, Charles Barkley is best known for his humor on Inside the NBA. But before becoming a television icon, the “Round Mound of Rebound” was one of the league’s most dominant scorers. Drafted by the 76ers in 1984, Barkley spent eight seasons in Philadelphia, averaging 22.1 points per game across 610 appearances. Barkley paired elite volume and overwhelming strength with remarkable efficiency.

In 1987-88, he averaged 28.3 points per game while leading the NBA with a 66.5% true shooting percentage—a mark that still stands among the most efficient high-volume scoring seasons in league history. For context, Steph Curry averaged 30.1 points on 66.9% true shooting in what is widely considered the most efficient offensive season in NBA history. Barkley led the league in true shooting percentage four straight times, field goal percentage five times, and effective field goal percentage twice during his Sixers tenure.
