  • Josh Hart throws out first pitch at Yankee Stadium on eponymous bobblehead night

Josh Hart helped bring one championship to New York this year, and he was at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, where they surely hope the good vibes can be further shared heading into the MLB postseason.

The baseball franchise honored the basketball swingman with a bobblehead giveaway, and he jogged out to open the game against the Orioles, tossing a ceremonial first pitch. Hart’s throw was a solid shot to the glove.

Check out his form below – and grade that bobblehead!

  • Cavaliers president Koby Altman shrugs off LeBron James’ 76ers move, touts his team’s ‘sustainable’ build

Cavaliers president Koby Altman shrugs off LeBron James’ 76ers move, touts his team’s ‘sustainable’ build

Cavaliers President Koby Altman, right, is confident Cleveland has a contending roster heading into the 2026-27 season – without the addition of LeBron James.

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio (AP) — Koby Altman would have loved for LeBron James to return for a third stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

When the most popular player in franchise history decided to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers after eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, the Cavaliers’ president of basketball operations wasn’t fazed.

“We can’t be reliant on one outcome. I think we have too much of a good thing going in terms of our infrastructure, our foundation to worry about one outcome,” Altman said at a news conference Friday before the Cavaliers begin training camp next week. “I’m not downplaying the enormity and magnitude of the decision. I just think the way we’re built as an organization is we have a great foundation and a great sort of ecosystem in terms of talent, coaching staff, our performance staff and we’re built for a sustainable run here regardless of one outcome.”

James’ agent, Rich Paul, said on his podcast in July that the Cavaliers were the only team to meet with James, while Miami and Golden State were the other finalists.

Altman has been able to build a contending roster since James’ second departure in 2018 after he led the Cavs to four straight trips to the NBA Finals and the franchise’s first championship in 2016.

Cleveland has won at least 50 games the past two years and reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season for the first time since 2018. They were swept in four games by the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks.

The Cavs quickly pivoted after James’ decision and addressed their need for a wing player, acquiring Peyton Watson in a five-team trade and signing him to a four-year, $88 million contract. On the first day of free agency, Donovan Mitchell signed a four-year, $273 million contract extension.

James Harden — who was acquired near the trade deadline — signed a three-year, $97 million extension that gave the Cavaliers some flexibility under the salary cap by going below both aprons.

“You go through the list and zoom out and say, ‘OK, was this offseason a success? Were we able to get better? Did we look at the future? Did we get more financial flexibility, more sustainability with the roster?’ All of those things lead me to say this was a really good offseason in spite of that one decision,” Altman said.

While the 37-year-old Harden and 30-year-old Mitchell are the team leaders, the 24-year-old Watson gives the Cavs another young player who can mesh with Evan Mobley (25), Jarrett Allen (28) and Jaylon Tyson (23).

Watson started a career-high 40 games last season with the Denver Nuggets and averaged career bests in points (14.6), rebounds (4.9) and assists (2.1).

“What I’ve been seeing in the gym is the defense, first of all. And then he shot 41% from 3 last year. It’s a one-year sample, but there’s a lot of room for growth in his offensive game, especially the way we play,” Atkinson said.

Atkinson also lauded Harden for arriving three weeks before the start of training camp and helping to organize workouts.

Even though the Cavaliers were one of the final four teams left standing in the postseason, they haven’t attracted much attention this offseason. The Knicks’ title defense, Jaylen Brown and James heading to Philadelphia, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade to Miami and Indiana getting healthier with the return of Tyrese Haliburton have left Cleveland under the radar.

Altman doesn’t think the Cavs are being slighted.

“I’d be more worried if I was worried about talent, our process or some of the more day-to-day things,” he said. “I think a lot of teams got better to chase us. When you’re a final four team, teams need to improve to get to that level. And we’re on that level. We want more.”

  • Mavs’ Kyrie Irving ready to ‘kick some butt’ after ACL injury sidelined him for 19 months

Mavs’ Kyrie Irving ready to ‘kick some butt’ after ACL injury sidelined him for 19 months

Kyrie Irving returns from injury to join forces with 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg in Dallas.

DALLAS (AP) — Veteran Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving said Friday he’s under no physical restrictions from the torn ACL in his left knee that sidelined him 19 months ago, an injury that he called “probably the best thing that happened to me.”

“I’m ready to go out there and kick some butt,” Irving, 34, said during the team’s preseason media day, the first time that he’s addressed the media since the March 3, 2025 injury. “I know that naysayers or some of the questions around where I’m going to be are going to be inevitable. But for me, I have the confidence of a champion. … This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately type of league, and everybody wants to see it up close. So, I’m looking forward to being able to lace up my shoes and being on the court with my teammates and show everybody what I got again. It’s just like riding a bike.”

“In terms of health, he’s right there,” new team president Masai Ujiri said. “You hope he plays games and he gets right back into it.”

Irving said the time away from competitive play gave him time for reflection.

“On where I want to be as a player and most importantly where do I want to be as a man,” he said. “How can people look to me to be a better leader, a better communicator, be more emotional, vulnerable. And also taking the approach of acting like my age finally. Being 34 years old, I’m going on year 16. Been through a lot, been through a lot of ups and downs as a person. But I think me as a competitor out there, you never have to worry about me falling short of (putting) my best foot forward out there.”

Irving – and all the Mavericks – will play for a revamped franchise after last season’s 26-56 lottery finish, Dallas’ worst in eight years. Ujiri was hired in early May, then hired Dusty May in late June as coach to replace Jason Kidd. May, who led Michigan to last season’s NCAA title, becomes the first coach to go directly from college basketball to an NBA head job since John Beilein left Michigan for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2019.

Asked about being a rookie head man coaching Irving, a nine-time All-Star, May said, “Kyrie has seen and done as much as just about anyone in the association. I would expect that I’m only going to coach him when I’m able to add value.”

Irving will finally play alongside Cooper Flagg, last season’s unanimous Kia Rookie of the Year.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to grow with him,” Irving said. ”High-level basketball players, no matter the age – you put us out there, we’re going to win some ballgames.”

“Having somebody like that out there on the court with you at all times is going to be amazing,” Flagg said. “The time that we’ve been able to spend in the summer on the court together has been good for both of us to kind of build that connection. I’m really excited. I think it’s going to be really fun to share the court.”

“The uniqueness of seeing what Kyrie, Cooper, that combination could do with all the players we have, with Dusty, I’m curious to see what that looks like,” Ujiri said.

The Mavericks on Friday announced the re-signing of Dwight Powell, the dean of current Mavericks, having joined the club in December 2014 during his rookie season following a trade from Boston.

Dallas begins its preseason with two games against the Houston Rockets in Macao, China beginning Oct. 9. The Mavericks open their regular season at Houston on Oct. 21 with their home opener on Oct. 24 against the Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs.

  • LeBron James says friendship with Tyrese Maxey helped lead him to 76ers

LeBron James says friendship with Tyrese Maxey helped lead him to 76ers

LeBron James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2026 offseason after spending the previous eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.

PHILADELPHIA — LeBron James said his longstanding friendship with All-Star Tyrese Maxey and a desire to help Joel Embiid win his first NBA title played significant roles in his decision to sign a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers in July.

The 41-year-old James revealed scant details about the free-agency process on his “Mind the Game” podcast with co-host Steve Nash that dropped Friday. James is scheduled to meet the press for the first time as a Sixer on Monday at the team’s media day in Camden, New Jersey ahead of training camp opening next week.

A four-time NBA champion, James wrote on social media when he signed with the Sixers that he felt he was “done” when his 23rd NBA season ended, his last with the Los Angeles Lakers. But after time away with family, and still feeling physically and mentally strong in offseason workouts, James decided he wanted to keep playing.

James has won NBA championships with every team he’s played for: the Lakers, Miami and Cleveland.

“I think I’m more in love with the pursuit of how much more can I defy the odds,” James said on the podcast.

James said “Philly was not even a question” early in his decision making until the Sixers pulled the surprising deal with Boston for NBA Finals MVP and champion Jaylen Brown. James and Maxey share an agent and have been friends and workout partners since the Sixers guard broke into the league, a friendship that turned into a recruiting pitch for the NBA’s career scoring leader.

“When I became a free agent and we decided to let the Lakers know that I wouldn’t be returning, he was one of the first people that was on my line, calling me,” James said of Maxey.

James also was intrigued with trying to help the oft-injured Embiid win his first title. Embiid has won an NBA MVP, two scoring titles, and Olympic gold medal, but has yet to lead the Sixers out of the second round of the playoffs since Philadelphia selected him third overall in the 2014 draft.

“He’s done everything in our league, and the only thing he has not done is win a championship. And I want to try to help him get that first one,” James said. “He has a city on his back. He’s been ‘The Process’ for 10 years, 12 years, however long he’s been there. But I think it’s time we even get you deeper into The Process. And I hope that I can be, kind of, that final little piece that can help him get over the hump.”

The Sixers went 45-37 last season and were swept in the second round by the eventual NBA champion New York Knicks.

    James’ résumé is beyond compare in NBA history. He’s a 22-time All-Star, a 21-time All-NBA selection, a four-time Most Valuable Player, a four-time NBA Finals MVP, a three-time All-Star Game MVP, and was a member of the NBA’s 75th anniversary team.

He’s also coming off a season where he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game. For his career, he’s averaged 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists in more than 1,600 games.

James’ eight seasons with the Lakers were the longest continuous stretch with a single team of his NBA career, and he helped the franchise win its 17th championship in 2020. He even became the first father to play alongside his son in league history, teaming up with guard Bronny James for the past two seasons.

James called it “humbling” to play for the Lakers and expressed disappointment he wasn’t able to enjoy a championship parade because of the 2020 pandemic. James called Los Angeles home and said it would be for “the foreseeable future.”

No vamos a correr riesgos. Se ha hecho una hipertensión en la rodilla en el golpeo y no pinta bien como para que pueda continuar, no vamos a correr riesgos”, declaró Zidane en rueda de prensa.

  • Sam Presti expects OKC to be ‘exceptional’ team even after offseason moves

    Sam Presti Media Availability

Oklahoma City Thunder general manager Sam Presti speaks to the media before 2026 Media Day.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Sam Presti knows there is no dancing around the fact the Thunder will have a different makeup this season though that doesn’t make OKC’s longtime general manager nervous.

The Thunder won 64 games and took the San Antonio Spurs to seven games in the Western Conference finals, then traded longtime starter Lu Dort and key reserves Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins to shed salary needed to get below the second apron — a strict payroll threshold above the luxury tax that imposes severe roster-building and trade restrictions.

“I really do feel that by season’s end, we could have a really exceptional basketball team, if we stay healthy,” Presti said Thursday. “But, we’re gonna be different.

“There’s no way to avoid that because if you look over the last two years we’re losing about 10,000 minutes combined of those players. We’re losing about, oh, like a quarter, of our minutes played with that particular group.”

The new-look Thunder open the season Oct. 20 against the Spurs. The cupboard will be anything but bare when they head to San Antonio.

The Thunder still have plenty of firepower beginning with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two-time reigning league MVP who averaged 31.1 points per game and shot 55.3% from the field. He will be reunited with 2025 All-Star Jalen Williams, who returns after missing 49 games in 2025-26.

Forward Chet Holmgren averaged career-highs of 17.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game and made All-NBA for the first time and was named to the All-Defensive team for the first time as well. He also earned his first All-Star nod, plus was second in the Defensive Player of the Year balloting.

Jared McCain, Ajay Mitchell and Cason Wallace are all expected to take on larger roles this season and Presti said moving Dort “is how highly we think of Cason.”

The GM said the key to the Thunder’s success this season starts with adopting a “beginner’s mindset.”

Presti said the Thunder “can’t come in predetermining how the year’s going to go, who’s going to play where, how we’re going to play. We kind of just have to open our minds and let ourselves kind of take ourselves where ever this team’s going to take us.”

The process rarely changes for the Thunder, who will pursue progress and not outcomes, Presti added.

“We’ve said the same things when we were winning 23 games as we were when we were winning 68 games,” he said. “We don’t know how many games we’re going to win this year. We’re not entitled to anything.”

Presti believes the Thunder are well-positioned for long-term success, particularly with recent changes instituted by the NBA — changes he believes has the league positioned for another golden era that will coincide with the his team’s 25th year in Oklahoma City — in 2033.

“I think the current initiatives of the league are putting us on the doorstep of another great era to come,” he said. “And we as an organization, quite frankly, we want to be — and have the choice to be, a part of that when that comes around.”

Those initiatives include the impact of the new NBA draft lottery rules as well as the strict payroll threshold above the luxury tax that imposes severe roster-building and trade restrictions.

Net ratings, records and player statistics are expected to decline as a result, Presti said.

“But the key for us is to not let all of these different initiatives, all these different irons in the fire, distract us from the main thing and to keep it simple,” said Presti, adding that means “making the Thunder better, day to day, season to season and believe it or not, decade to decade.”

  • LeBron James says friendship with Maxey, desire to help Embiid win a title led him to 76ers

LeBron James says friendship with Maxey, desire to help Embiid win a title led him to 76ers
